For festival organisers there are so many things to think about, from event water delivery to making sure that all attendees know what they should and shouldn’t bring with them.
Reading and Leeds Festivals have added a rather unusual item to their banned list this year – pineapples. The reason behind the ban is that fans of the band Glass Animals often bring the tropical fruit to their gigs in a tribute to their song Pork Soda, which features the line “pineapples are in my head”.
A spokesman for the festivals said that organisers were “a little concerned about hundreds of pineapples turning up on site so decided to ask fans not to bring them along”.
Although he added: “The tongue may be slightly in cheek on this one.”
However, drummer in Glass Animals Joe Seaward said that fans may see this as a challenge, commenting: “Anyone who wasn’t bringing a pineapple definitely is now.”
On a more serious note, there are a number of items that you really shouldn’t bring to the festivals, including weapons, fireworks, drones and glass. Of course, there’s plenty that you will need, including clothes to suit all weathers given the unpredictable British weather.
The Times recently reported that security at a range of festivals in the UK is being stepped up this summer amid concerns over an Isis-inspired terrorist campaign.
According to the newspaper, vehicle barriers have already been installed at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, and police are thinking about installing them at Notting Hill Carnival this year as well.
